Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) is a simple and non-invasive hearing test that measures the tiny sounds produced by the inner ear (cochlea) in response to sound stimulation. These sounds are created by the movement of outer hair cells in the cochlea and indicate whether the ear is functioning normally. OAEs are commonly used for newborn hearing screening and for detecting hearing loss in children and adults.
